According to the USDA, nearly 48 million people in the United States lived in food-insecure households in 2024, meaning they did not always have reliable access to enough nutritious food for an active, healthy life. Millions of individuals and families continue to face barriers to accessing healthy meals. Food insecurity often goes hand in hand with stress, isolation, and uncertainty. Through shared meals, cooking education, and community support, we work to create a space where people can access nutritious food, build meaningful connections, and develop the tools needed to thrive.
Neighbors Who Nourish hosts monthly gatherings that bring community members together through food, support, and meaningful connection. At each event, participants share a community meal made with affordable, nutritious ingredients while learning practical ways to prepare healthy food on a budget. These gatherings create a welcoming environment where individuals and families can connect with others, share experiences, and build a strong sense of community.
In addition to promoting food security, our events provide resources and conversations focused on emotional well-being, stress management, and personal resilience. By creating a space where people feel supported and valued, we aim to equip participants with the tools, confidence, and connections needed to navigate challenges and thrive. Through every meal and every conversation, we are strengthening community bonds and fostering lasting support networks
For the Individuals and Families We Serve:
Food insecurity is about more than a lack of food—it often brings stress, uncertainty, and emotional strain that can affect overall well-being. For many families, especially those relying on food assistance programs, challenges such as limited resources, unfamiliar ingredients, or the stigma surrounding food insecurity can make it difficult to feel confident and secure. Through community meals, practical nutrition education, and supportive conversations, we help individuals and families build confidence, develop valuable life skills, and find a sense of belonging within their community.
For the Community as a Whole:
Food insecurity is often less visible than many people realize, even in communities like Orange County. Behind closed doors, many families face difficult decisions about how to access healthy, nutritious food while managing the pressures of everyday life. When people feel connected, supported, and empowered, the benefits extend beyond the individual. Stronger relationships, increased awareness, and a greater willingness to support one another help create a more compassionate and resilient community. By fostering connection and reducing isolation, we are helping build a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
